Testing and removal are separate jobs here
Louisiana law says the same company can't do the mold assessment and the mold remediation on the same property, and no one can own part of both companies. That keeps the person telling you there's a problem from profiting off the fix. The Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors says assessments don't require a license, but a paid assessor has to give you a written report. Remediation jobs over $7,500 require a Mold Remediation license from the LSLBC, which you can look up on the board's website.
When testing is worth it, and when it isn't
If you can see mold, you usually don't need a test to know it's there. The EPA says sampling is generally unnecessary when growth is visible, and no federal limits exist for mold spores. The CDC doesn't recommend routine sampling.
Independent testing can help when:
